Dan Bowers Obituary
After a long illness, Pastor Dan Bowers died on December 21, 2021, and is survived by his wife, Paulette Bowers, and four adult children: Sarah, Paul, John, and Elisabeth. Born in Pennsylvania in 1949, he was the son of Frank and Elizabeth Bowers who also had five other children: Bob, Dave, Don, Tim, and Debbie. Dan graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School, Trenton State College with a B.A. in Music Performance, Wheaton College with an M.A. in Christian Education, and Denver Theological Seminary with a Doctorate in Christian Ministries.
Dan had three primary loves in his life: music, family, and God. He was passionate about music, particularly playing the French horn and singing. Beginning with the Trenton Philharmonic Orchestra, he continued throughout his life to play for many local town orchestras and to sing in multiple local chorales, locally the Pemigewasett Chorale. In 1971, he fell in love, sold his precious French horn to purchase an engagement ring for another love of his life, Paulette, to whom he was married for 50 years. Together they raised four children and multiple pets. He was a devoted father and later grandfather to his eight grandchildren.
More profoundly than his life-long love of music and his deep love for his family, Dan Bowers will be remembered for his devotion to the Lord Jesus Christ. As a child, he decided to follow Jesus and throughout his life, Dan followed God’s call to serve in a variety of ministries. As a young adult, he was involved with a beach and surfing ministry in Ocean City New Jersey with Campus Crusade for Christ as well as an evangelistic coffee house. He became a youth pastor in Toronto, Ontario, and later became an associate pastor in Cambridge, Ontario. He led a fledgling church plant in Augusta, Maine and for over 20 years, he grew Hope Baptist Church into a thriving Christian community. He served as Pastor of the International Christian Fellowship in Caracas, Venezuela for two years, and later as interim Pastor at Cherry Hill Baptist Church in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. He later moved to Rumney, New Hampshire, where he served as pastor of Rumney Baptist Church for 11 years, retiring in March of 2017.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 8th, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Rumney Baptist Church (375 Main Street, Rumney, New Hampshire 03266).
In honor of Dan Bowers, donations may be made to Rumney Baptist Church or Rumney Bible Conference (P.O. Box 599, Rumney, NH 03266).
