Stephen Lowen Obituary

We are sad to announce that Stephen (Steve) Gerald Lowen, 90, of Litchfield, NH, passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 8, 2022, with his wife Sally by his side.

Steve was born on August 25, 1932 to Sophie and Henry Lowenberg in New York City. After graduating from Bronx High School of Science, he obtained a Bachelor's Degree at City College of New York and went on to study accounting/actuary at University of Michigan in Ann Arbor where he met and married his first wife, Rosalind. Steve entered the Army after college where he was stationed at the Aberdeen Proving Ground. After the Army, Steve received an MBA from Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois, while working at Caterpillar, Inc. as a systems engineer. Steve and Roz moved to Philadelphia where he started his long career at IBM, later moving to Bedford, NY. He enjoyed working at IBM and was able to travel throughout the world including spending 2 years on an international assignment in London, England. Steve and Roz had three boys, Andrew, James and Daniel.

Steve moved to Sante Fe, NM where he met Sally, his wife of 21 years. Steve and Sally moved to Southern NH in 2012 to be closer to his children and grandchildren. They both loved their pets, especially the 4 adult Belgian Malinois dogs they provided a home for over the years: Chaco, Tessa, Merza (all retired military K9s), and Bailey, as well as Jiggs the cat. Steve and Sally enjoyed traveling the world together. Over his long life, Steve traveled to all 7 continents, 75 countries, and 48 states.

Steve was an avid skier and tennis player his entire life, doing both well into his 80s. He skied all over the world and enjoyed skiing with his children and grandchildren. He started playing pickleball in NH in his 70s and competed in tournaments. He even won a NH over 80 masters tournament award. He enjoyed reading, especially the NY Times, and loved watching his beloved Giants. He enjoyed talking about football and politics with his children and grandchildren. Over the years Steve served on 6 boards, including most recently for his 55+ community in NH.

He is survived by his wife, Sally Booty Lowen, son Andy and his wife Corey, son Jamie and his wife Bernadette, son Dan and his wife Cara; and grandchildren, Greg and his wife Kara, Eve, Chris, Sean, Zach, Sophie and Jacob;. He is also survived by his brother Bill Lowen and his wife Lori, of Albuquerque, NM as well Sally's children, son David Booty and his wife Laura, son Christopher Booty and his wife Joanna, daughter Julie Anne Overton and her husband James and by Sally's grandchildren, Jessica and Jake Booty and Christopher and Andrew Overton. Steve was also husband to Gisela Lowen who passed away in 1999.

There will be a celebration of Steve's life for family and friends at a later date.
