He was predeceased by: his parents, William Ryan, Sr. and Agnus Ryan (Eaton); his wife Mary Ann Ryan (Tardif); his stepson Daniel Dignan IV; and his sister Dorothy Waldron.

He is survived by: his daughter Nancy Van Huizen (JP); his stepdaughter Karen Brosnahan; his daughter-in-law Janice Dignan; his brother Walter'Cappy'Ryan (Laura); his grandchildren, Vera Van Huizen (Caine Mormon), Candace Knowlton (Toby), Mollie Dignan (Bailey Clermont), Ian Van Huizen (Mara Luntadila) and Emily Brosnahan; his great grandchildren, Jackson, Samuel and Elizabeth; and his nieces and nephews, Bill, Tom, Kim and Nicki.
