Janet Greer Obituary
Janet Elaine Swart Greer, 85, of Haverhill Corner passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on July 12th. Janet was born on August 25th, 1937 to Derwood and Margaret (Vanvlierden) Swart in Saugerties, New York where she was raised with her 5 siblings, Helen, Marion, Durwood (Buzzy), Richard and John.
As a teenager, Janet devilishly skipped school to watch Micky Mantle and the NY Yankees, only to meet Mickey many years later. Graduating from Saugerties High School, Janet became a true entrepreneur operating Modjeska Sign Studios, in Kingston and The Floral Cottage in Port Ewen until retiring in 1998.
For the last 6 years of her life, Janet resided in Haverhill Corner, New Hampshire with her daughter Sharon Modjeska and her husband David McKee, spending hours on the deck overlooking Vermont and the Connecticut River, basking in the sun, playing ball with her beloved chocolate labs Simon, Millie & Maddie. At the age of 81, Janet rediscovered cruising making annual trips to Alaska and the Caribbean.
Janet is predeceased by her husband Jon R. Greer.
Janet leaves behind her children Steven Modjeska, Pam Franklin, Nancy Modjeska-Ostin, Sharon Modjeska, and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Janet kept dear to her heart her lifelong friends from Kingston, New York, George, and Ginny Kithcart, and her "Sister" Shirley and twin brother Sherman Lawson.
In keeping with Janet's wishes, there will be no visitation hours or formal service. Her remains after cremation will be returned to Kingston, New York to be laid to rest with her beloved husband Jon.
