He is survived by: his wife Mary Hervey (Bergeron); his children, Jessica Gooch (Dave Carpenter) of Sanford, ME and Derek Moore (Angie) of Exeter, NH; and his siblings, David P. Gooch of Hampton, NH and Christine S. Gooch of Salem, MA. He is also survived by grandchildren and great grandchildren.

“When ever John's name comes up I always think of the time he and Jessica came fishing with me on the "Miss Hampton Beach". It was the late 1970s before cell phones. The the fishing was pretty good. I'll always remember John holding the fishing pole and smiling and Jessica cranking the handle on the reel to land the catch of the moment.”
