He was predeceased by: his parents, Stanley Burns and Irene Burns (Hughes); his wife Lee Ann (Joy); his son Dennis Jr.; his siblings, David and Ellen Upton; and his niece Cicely Joy.
He is survived by: his children, Timothy (Carolyn), Jonathan (Kim) and Cathy (Jim); his grandchildren, Elizabeth Dandurand, Ryan Burns, Melanie Merrihew, Mara Bucardo Perkins, Sarah DeSerres, Nathan Burns, Samuel Smith, Kate Smith and Ben Smith; his great grandchildren, Eva, Olivia, Penelope, Isabelle, Soet, Julian and George; and his sister Sally. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
