Mary Wyatt Obituary

Mary “Emmy” (Olmsted) Wyatt died on Monday, September 23, 2019, at the Community
Hospice House in Merrimack, NH after a thirteen-year journey with colon cancer. She was 55 years old and known in Bedford, NH for an indominable spirit and a kind heart focused on helping others.
Emmy was born in Bryn Mawr, PA on October 19, 1963, the daughter of Mary (Zisette) Olmsted and George Olmsted. She grew up in Wayland, MA, attended the local schools and graduated from Wayland High School in 1981. Emmy then enrolled at Williams College in Williamstown, MA, where she was a member of the Women’s Rugby Team and studied abroad in Paris through the Sweet Briar College Junior Year in France program, taking classes at Sciences Po. She graduated in 1985 with an Economics major and a French minor. She later earned a Master of Business Administration from Columbia University of New York City in 1989. This led to a Manhattan-based career in consulting developing executive compensation plans at KPMG Peat Marwick and Towers Perrin before moving to Bedford, NH in 1998 and becoming a full-time mother to her two children. She returned to her consulting career on a part-time basis a few years ago with the Wilson Group of Concord, MA.
In Bedford, Emmy was a football and swimming “team mom,” devoted volunteer in the Bedford Public Schools, and a parishioner of Grace Episcopal Church in Manchester, NH. She was known for her love of reading and belonged to many book groups over the years. Emmy was also an avid skier and hiker. Her skiing life began as a child during family weekends at the Mad River Glen ski area in Fayston, VT and continued as an adult at Sugarbush Resort one town over in Warren, VT. Despite the travails of periodic chemotherapy, she became a member of the Four Thousand-Footer Club sponsored by the Appalachian Mountain Club after climbing each of the 48 New Hampshire mountains over 4, 000 feet in elevation. Many of these summits were achieved with the family’s beloved yellow Labrador Retriever, Zeus, in tow.
Emmy believed in active citizenship which led her to be a volunteer advocate for children at CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) New Hampshire. In addition, she spent recent months attending events for each of the 2020 Democratic candidates for President to determine their fitness for office.
Emmy is survived by her husband of 31 years, Ken Wyatt, originally from White Plains, NY; as well as her children, James and Caroline. She also leaves behind her father, George Olmsted, of Chatham, MA, two brothers, Stephen Olmsted, of New Bedford, MA and Jay Olmsted, of Winchester, MA; along with five nieces and nephews. Emmy is predeceased by her mother, Mary Olmsted.
A memorial service will take place at Grace Episcopal Church in Manchester, NH on Friday, October 18, at 2:30 PM. This will be followed by the burial of her ashes in Chatham, MA which will take place at a later date attended by close family.
