He was predeceased by: his wife Phyllis Jean Bartels; his son Brian Hicks; his parents-in-law, Lorenz and Esther Bartels; his stepmother Evelyn; his siblings, Bob Hicks and Barbara Crook; and his great grandchild Gabriella Wood.
He is survived by: his daughter Shelley Saltzman (Tony); his grandsons, Cory Wood of Seward and Casey Wood of Seward; his great grandchildren, Peyton, Rowan Wood, Solarra, Saylor Wood and Kingston Hofer; and his siblings, Ron, Cinda Hicks, Lincoln, Cheryl and Gary Busch.
