He was predeceased by: his parents, George Grothen and Irma Grothen (Toepfer); his son Conrad Joseph; his sisters, Elayne and Marnis; and his brother-in-law Claude Zwart.
He is survived by: his wife Joyce Marie Ripp of Fullerton; his children, Phillip Grothen (Kim) of Juniata, Andrea Bissen (Scott) of Overland Park, KS, Mark Grothen (Diana) of Alhambra, CA and Julia Grothen of Juniata; his grandchildren, Lauren and Alexander Bissen; his stepgrandchildren, Ron DeVries, Jessie Peterson (Christian) and Jamie Aue (Curtis); his stepgreat-grandchildren, Emma, Cate Peterson, Creighton and Carter Aue; his nieces and nephews, Robyn Peterson, Kaeti Stanley, Scott Zwart, Steve Zwart and John Bunch (Mary); and his great-nieces and great-nephews, Kate Sutton, Rebecca Stanley, Brett, Brad Petersen, Eric, Alan Zwart, John Stanley and Jimmy Bunch.
Memorials may be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church, First Saint Paul's Lutheran Church or the Hastings Food Pantry all in Hastings.
