He was predeceased by: his parents, Gideon Griess and Johanna Griess; his siblings, Robert, Wesley Griess, Mary Ann Shunkwiler and Kathleen Harrison; his siblings-in-law, Kenneth Shunkwiler, Claton Frieden, Earl Frieden, Gerald Crone, Sharon Kay Griess, Sharon Ann Griess, Velda Frieden and Barbara Frieden; his niece Lori Nelson; and his nephews, Craig Crone and Adam Shunkwiler.
He is survived by: his wife Opal Frieden; his children, Gail Griess (Deb) of Sutton, Beth Fitzke (Ron) of Harvard and Joni Griess of Garden City, KS; his siblings, Don Griess (Karen), Kenneth Griess (Carol), Inez Krass (Don), Jeannine Rath, Aldine Rowe (Ron) and Erna Griess; his siblings-in-law, Bob Harrison, Ila Nelson (Wayne) and Sherrill Crone; and his extended family, Bill Blumer (Joyce), Jessica Fruchtl (AJ), Cade, Jack, Reed Fruchtl, Stephanie Laetsch (Matt), Gina Osterhaus and Abigail Osterhaus. He is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
Visitation was held on Sunday, February 16th 2025 from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Sutton Memorial Chapel (804 S Saunders Ave, Sutton, NE 68979). A funeral service was held on Monday, February 17th 2025 at 10:30 AM at the Emmanuel Reformed Church (110 S Way Ave, Sutton, NE 68979).
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Emmanuel Reformed Church or the Sutton Community Home Foundation.
