He was predeceased by : his parents, Harry Raymond and Olive Lenora Carter Sterup; his son Jerry; his brother Tom; his parents-in-law, Arthur and Alice Johansen; and his siblings-in-law, Barbara Sterup, Eugene'Jinx'Johansen, Gene Cole, Dave, Patty Richards, Bob, Margie Johansen, Nadine Johansen, Jerry Johansen and Dennis Johansen.

He is survived by : his wife Joan Marie Johansen of Stromsburg; his children, Jacki Kliewer (Ardean) of Perham, MN, David Sterup of Tecumseh and Mary Enloe of Waterloo; his brother Dick Sterup of Rogers, AR; and his siblings-in-law, Dorothy Cole, Janet Johansen, Jackie Fjell, JoAnn Donelson and Bill Johansen. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, June 11th 2024 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Evangelical Free Church (101 W 9th St, Stromsburg, NE 68666). A memorial service was held on Wednesday, June 12th 2024 at 10:00 AM at the Stromsburg Evangelical Free Church (101 W 9th St, Stromsburg, NE 68666).
