He was predeceased by: his parents, Erma Carpenter (Reed) and Alva Carpenter; his daughter Maria; and his siblings, Darl (Jackie), Roy (Agnes), Duane (Doris) and Colleen Robb.
He is survived by: his son Gregory Jay (Jill) of Cortland; his wife Irene Novotny of Sterling; his grandsons, Alexander of Council Bluffs, IA and Zachary of Cortland; his brother-in-law Alan Robb of Lincoln; and his stepgrandchildren, Morgan Shea (Troy Sedlacek) of Omaha, Jordan Shea (Maddie) of Adams and Tanner Shea (Saige Angleton) of Omaha. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the Rose Hill Cemetery Association in Douglas.
