He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter Smith and Virginia Smith (Cole); his stepfather Gerald Bassett; his daughters, Angel and Virginia; and his brothers, Jim, Walt, Melvin and Tom.
He is survived by: his wife Dalene Schlote (Johnson); his children, Bryan Parkhurst (Cindy) of Lander, WY, Richard Schlote (Sarah) of Emporia, KS, Charles Schlote (Renee) of Blair and Dawn Smith (Anita Guerra) of Omaha; and his sister Sharon Meehan. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, five great grandchildren.
