He was predeceased by: his parents, Elwin McKernan and Eva McKernan (Sterling); his son James McKernan; his granddaughter Catherine Simmons; his brother Richard McKernan; and his stepfather Edwin Arnold.
He is survived by: his wife Joann Hansjosten; his daughter Terri Hexamer (Terry) of Alton, IA; his grandchildren, Rebecca, Steve (Samantha), Brenda (David), Shawn, Ethan and Joey; his daughter Jodi Imafidon (Chris) of Scottsdale, AZ; his grandchildren, Alexander, Nicole and Victoria; his daughter Lynda Ferris (Don); his grandchildren, Michael, Jeremiah, Angela, James (Amanda), Donald (Jenny) and Joshua McKernan (Lael); and his siblings, Robert McKernan (Karen), Dennis McKernan, Kevin Arnold (Shelly), Ellen Perdu, Elaine Moore, Pat Kampfe and Veronica Grijalba. He is also survived by 21 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
