He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Arends and Emma Arends (Graves); his wife Lillian Schroeder; and his stepmother Florence. He is survived by: his children, Scott Arends (Janette) and Pamela Arends. He is also survived by 2 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; 4 brothers; and 2 sisters.
