He was predeceased by: his son Darrel Dean Jr.; and his parents, George Shindle and Margaret Shindle. He is survived by: his daughters, Rhonda Marie, Rhonda Elquist, Katrina Shindle and Karoline Porter; and his brothers, Pat Shindle of Nampa and Fred Shindle (Kay) of Lovelock. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren; two cousins.
