He is survived by: his wife Joanne Vice; his children, Max William Shafer III and Penny Diane Shafer; his brother Gordon; his grandchildren, Max William Shafer IV and Treia VaNae; and his stepgrandchildren, Jeff, Ben and Breanna Kosmicki. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren.
