He was predeceased by: his parents, Theodore Hoger and Inez Hoger (Schwendt); his wife Anita Hoger; his brother Donald; and his sister-in-law Lois Hoger.

He is survived by: his sons, Stephen (Karen Hoger), Tim (Kristina Hoger) and David Hoger; and his grandchildren, Mark (Emily Hoger), Amy (Aaron Podschun), Margaret Lawson and Matt (Isabel Hoger). He is also survived by 7 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church in Orange, CA, Concordia University in Irvine, CA, Concordia University in River Forest, IL, or Concordia University in Seward, NE.

“I had Mr. Hoger for my biology and Adv. bio courses at Lutheran High Central. He had an exciting, inquiring mind and definitely liked to work outside the box. I helped campaign for him in St. Louis when I was a senior in high school. I remember helping move the bio lab with equipment, snakes, rats, etc. It was done on a weekend on the school buses. I have very found memories of him as a teacher and person.”
