He was predeceased by: his parents, George Tonjes and Martha Hilbers Tonjes; his siblings, Clarence (Annie Tonjes), Grace (Howard Gunderson), Mildred (Ed Fahrenholz), Evelyn (Maurice Swanson), George Tonjes and Valenda (Donald Poppe); and his son-in-law Earl Robinson.
He is survived by: his wife Norma Koester; his children, Susan Robinson, Daniel Tonjes (Carol), Linda Deinert (Melvin), Barbara Svec (Mark) and Pamela Tonjes; his grandchildren, Eric Tonjes (Elizabeth), Sara Tonjes, Melinda Deinert and Scott Deinert (Megan); his great grandchildren, Rebekah, Canaan, Silas Tonjes and Hudson Deinert; and his sister-in-law Ann Tonjes.
