He was predeceased by: his parents, Lester Applegate and Elsie Applegate (Battelle). He is survived by: his wife Martha Schance; and his children, Sherrie Leistritz (Jerry), Sharon Bauer (Doug), Sue Looney (Brian), Sally McCoy (Allan), Shirley Kreman and Joe Applegate (Carolyn). He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be given to Scottsbluff First United Methodist Church or Minatare Volunteer Fire Department.
