With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Gary L. Shafer of Saint Libory, Nebraska, born in Indio, California, who passed away on April 15, 2024 at the age of 81. Leave a sympathy message to the family on the memorial page of Gary L. Shafer to pay them a last tribute.

He was predeceased by: his mother Velma Shafer of Grand Island; his wife Patricia Jane Vavak; his father Wilson Shafer; and his parents-in-law, Stanley and Betty Vavak.

He is survived by: his children, Joel Shafer (Marcey) of St. Paul, NE, Matthew Shafer of St. Libory, Patrick Shafer of Grand Island, Benjamin Shafer of Grand Island, Amy Ryan of Arlington, Alison Shafer-Beckstrom (Jason) of Grand Island and Katharine Shafer of Grand Island; his sisters, Carolyn Radcliff (Jerry) of Prescott Valley and Jacki Marsh (Dave) of Grand Island; and his siblings-in-law, S. "Dean" Vavak of Omaha and Ann Grimes (Mike) of Grand Island. He is also survived by nineteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren.

As such, the family asks that memorials be made to the American Red Cross either in form of a blood donation in Gary's honor or monetary donation to the organization.
