We are sad to announce that on November 8, 2024, at the age of 75, Russell Olaf Rasmussen of Ponca, Nebraska, born in Mitchell, South Dakota passed away. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Raymond Rasmussen and Clara Rasmussen (Drafahl); his stepfather Don Clark; his former wife Kathy Rasmussen; his parents-in-law, Michael, Florence Kokesh Sr., Frank and Noma O'Neill; his siblings-in-law, Jerry, Brian O'Neill, Jim Dillon and Rosemary Rasmussen; and his nieces, Cayla Westendorf, Rachel and Becky Kokesh.
He is survived by: his former wife Kathy Kokesh; his grandchild Donelle; his wife Julie Rasmussen (O'Neill); his children, Clint Rasmussen (Jennifer) of Dakota City, NE, Donelle McNaughton (Jamie) and Brad Rasmussen (Zonia); his stepchildren, Carla Kreegar (Mike) of Raymore, MO and Jon Richards (Angie) of Polk City, IA; his nieces, Samantha Koktan (Joe) and Molly O'Neill; his brothers, Michael Rasmussen, Dennis Rasmussen (Darla) and Shannon Rasmussen (Bonnie); and his siblings-in-law, Ronnie Kokesh (Chris), Michael Kokesh (Jan), Dan O'Neill (Jacki), Karen Lich, Connie Dusek (John), Lori Iverson (Brian), Jane Dillon (Jim Mullin) and Jeanie Maxfield (Bob Casey).
Visitation was held on Tuesday, November 12th 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the St. Michael's Catholic Church (1405 1st Ave, South Sioux City, NE 68776). A rosary was held on Tuesday, November 12th 2024 at 6:30 PM at the same location. A vigil service was held on Tuesday, November 12th 2024 at 7:00 PM at the same location. A funeral service was held on Wednesday, November 13th 2024 at 10:00 AM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to a Dakota County American Legion Post, Freedom Park in South Sioux City and Dakota City and Ponca Fire Department.
