He was predeceased by: his parents, Albert Koenig and Elsa Koenig (Pfingsten); and his brother Wayne Koenig (Pearl). He is survived by: his children, Duane Koenig (Debby) of Arlington Heights, Kandi Hawkins (Joe) of Beatrice, Shari Stokey (Joe) of Lincoln and Dr. Marc Koenig (Kerri) of Lincoln; his stepchildren, Dennis O'Keefe (Sue) of Odessa and Terry O'Keefe (Fran) of Belton, Missouri; his nephew Rick Koenig (Melanie) of Beatrice; and his niece Sandy Eckhoff of Beatrice. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren.

Duane continued this volunteer work through every winter into 2019, until Covid.
