He was predeceased by: his son Eric; and his parents, Tom and Marion. He is survived by: his spouse Cyndi; his daughter Emily Jorgensen (Jason); his grandchildren, Tyler and Ryan; his siblings, Sharon Norlander (Mark) and Chuck Ruetten (Janice); and his caregivers, Nicole and Hannah.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Tom's memory may be made to the American Foundation of Suicide Prevention, a cause close to his heart.
