He was predeceased by: his parents, Werner Robert Braatz and Louise Braatz (Sprong); his son Louis Braatz Jr.; his siblings, Charles Braatz and Elizabeth Klein; and his brothers-in-law, Leroy Klein, William Christerson and Robert Waite.

He is survived by: his wife Mary Braatz of Beaver Lake, NE; his daughters, Melinda Classen (Bruce) of Omaha, NE and Laurie Voss (Jim) of Plattsmouth, NE; his grandchildren, Louis Braatz III, Lisa Voss, Crystal Braatz, Sarah Ward (Classen), Wallace Braatz, Jennifer Dasovic (Voss), Edwin Braatz and Michael Classen; and his sisters, Mary Waite of Greene, IA, Betty Christerson of Marshalltown, IA and Sharon Meggison (Jim) of Waterloo, IA. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
