He was predeceased by: his father Larry Mattern; and his grandparents, Ilene (Larson), Eddie Mattern, Luella (Hines) and Edgar Grosse.

He is survived by: his mother Mona Mattern (Grosse); his former wife Jolene Schilousky (Walnofer); his grandson Mitchell; his wife Cindy Mattern (Kruger); his children, Erin Lutz (Robb) of Roca, Stephanie Mattern (Lester Maertins) of Norfolk and Mitchell (Courtney) of Omaha; his stepdaughter Jessica Willer (Chris) of Norfolk; his brothers, Greg Mattern (Shari) and Kevin Mattern (Loretta); and his grandchildren, Bryce, Caleb, Abigail, Emerson, Draven, Korbin, Weston, Sydney, Lukas, Jace and Cole.
