He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Casper Gries and Theresa Gries (Feeken); his sisters, Berniece Gronborg and Irene Perlinger; his wife Nona Gries; his children, Brent Gries (Linda) of Paxton, Raeann Reinert (Nick) of Lincoln and Dixie Gries of North Platte; his grandchildren, Brandon Gries (Stephanie), Cody Reinert (Maggie), Melanie Effle (Brandon) of Lincoln, Kylee Jo Hasenauer (Bryce) of Lincoln and Kari Scheideler (Paul) of North Loup, NE; and his great grandchild Brookson Effle of Lincoln. He was also cherished by several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers memorials have been established in his memory.
