He was predeceased by: his parents, Leo Metzger and Erma Metzger (Vrtiska); his wife Virginia; his brother-in-law Howard Ettleman; and his great grandchild Colten Ellerbee.
He is survived by: his son Donald Jay; his sister Gertrude Ettleman of Nebraska City; his sister-in-law Julia McDougal of Hastings, NE; his children, Don Metzger (Karen) of Omaha, Janet Krause (Jim) of Plainview and Linda Johnson (Richard) of Hastings; and his grandchildren, Julie Palmer (Dave) of Colorado Springs, Zach Metzger of Omaha, Laurel Schaich (Matt) of Kansas City, Matt Krause (Tiffany) of York, Tom Krause (Julie) of Brunswick, Paul Krause (Cassie) of Omaha, Michael Krause (Karla) of Brunswick, Alan Ellerbee of Omaha, David Ellerbee (Josie) of Louisville and Kevin Ellerbee (Myste) of Hastings. He is also survived by sixteen greatgrandchildren (with two on the way), nieces, nephews and a host of treasured friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to The United Presbyterian Church, The Pawnee City Assisted Living, or the Pawnee County Memorial Hospital Foundation.
