Gunther was loved and cherished by many people including: mother Gertrude Matzold; wife Rosamunde Hempel; and children, Hannelore Plisek, Jerry Kroeker, Gary Hempel, Kathy Hempel, Linda Hempel, William "Bill" and Cindy Hempel. Gunther was also cherished by nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren.
