He was predeceased by: his parents, Dale Grace and Vi Grace (Lewellen); his brother Marvin Grace (Gail); his brother-in-law Johnny Podkonyak; and his niece Holli Fessler (Podkonyak).

He is survived by: his wife Arlene of Lewellen; his daughters, Geri Alworth (Larry) of Oshkosh and Julie Kreuter (Rick) of Big Springs; his grandchildren, Melissa (Brandon), Jenna and Nick; his great grandchildren, Jailyn, Ember, Conner, Peyton and Sage; and his siblings, JoAnn Podkonyak and Butch Grace (Jeannie) of Lewellen. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Merlyn's name can be made to the Lewellen Tiger Den, Lewellen Rural Fire or the Most Unlikely Place in Lewellen.
