He was predeceased by: his parents, George Crawford Gitt and Bertha Lois Gitt (Hanson); and his brother Daniel Gitt. He is survived by: his children, Angela Kristen of Arvada and Michael James of Omaha; his wife Kathy of Valley; his children, Alison Gitt of York and Adam Gitt (Rika) of Tokyo, Japan.; his grandchildren, Braxton, Hadley Govig, Isabella, Harper Glymph, Gina Stickman (Calvin), Brendan Gitt (Faith Desrochers), Aiden, Emerson, Ava Gitt, Sophia, Kate and Grace Gitt; his brothers, David Gitt (Judy) of Fremont and Kenneth Gitt (Susan) of Mt. Airy; and his sisters-in-law, Ellen Gitt of Kearney and Diane Stamp (Greg) of Hamilton. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to be sent to the family for later designation.
