He was predeceased by: his parents, Faustino Sermeno and Adela Sermeno (Cardenas); his stepfather Adam Benavidez; and his siblings, John, Mary and Ishmael.

He is survived by: his wife Patsy Estrada of Ogallala; his sons, Brian Sermeno (Carrie) of Seward and Jason Sermeno (Crystal) of North Platte; his grandchildren, Kaleb Sermeno (Lissete), Selena McMeekin (Marcus), Katie Allieu (Hinwa) and Isabel Sermeno; his great grandchild Aaron Sermeno; and his sisters, Jenny McNicholas (Myles) of Denver and Naomi Powers (Don) of Sun Lake, AZ. He is also survived by many other relatives and friends.

A memorial has been established in Riley's memory for later designation.
