He was predeceased by: his parents, Carl Hansmeier and Esther Hansmeier (Blomenkamp); his wife Janice Smith; his grandson Bryan Gifford; his siblings, Tom and Betty; and his brothers-in-law, Irvin Miller, Ira Painter, Leonard Gloy, Fred Engel and Ivan Ekart.
He is survived by: his children, Russell Hansmeier (Danette) of Ogallala, Brenda Hansmeier Eckhoff (Randy) of Sutherland and Diane Hansmeier; his grandchildren, Amanda Dack (Josh), Jeremy Gifford (Shaye), Haley Hansmeier, Luke Hansmeier, Dexter Robertson and Brooke Parker (Clint); his great grandchildren, Everett Dack and Graham Gifford; his sisters, Pat Engel of Omaha, Peg Ekart of Imperial and Mary Sue Borowski (Dan) of Grant; and his sister-in-law Mary Ann Hansmeier. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials have been established to support St. John's Lutheran Church and Alzheimer's Research.
