He was predeceased by: his parents, John Baumann and Beulah Baumann; his brother Charles Baumann; and his parent-in-law Ernest. He is survived by: his wife Judith; his children, Steve Baumann (Joanne), Mark Baumann (Linda), Greg Baumann (Jill), Christine Culpepper (Randy) and Nicole Vater (Tim); his grandchildren, Amanda Middlemas (R. J.), Shannon Jorgenson (Tyler), Jesse Baumann (Rebecca), Jon Baumann, Emma Baumann, Liam Baumann, Faith Culpepper, Trevor Vater, Madison Vater, Abby Vater, Trevor Burggraff (Sonya) and Bailey Lohmeyer (Chris); his brothers, Greg Baumann (Linda), Edward Baumann, Fred Baumann (Laurie) and Pat Baumann (Wendy Brusnahan); and his brothers-in-law, Ron Frerichs (Jeanne) and Dennis Frerichs (Shirley Brown).
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to St. Joseph's Catholic School of Beatrice.
