Elda Hemmer Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Elda Hemmer of Norfolk, Nebraska, who passed away on April 22, 2025, at the age of 91, leaving to mourn family and friends. Leave a sympathy message to the family on the memorial page of Elda Hemmer to pay them a last tribute.

She was predeceased by: her parents, Peter Herchenbach and Angela Herchenbach (Weidner); her husband Lee A. Hemmer; her parents-in-law, Albert and Antonette Hemmer; her daughter-in-law Peg Hemmer; her granddaughters, Abby Hemmer and Katie Jo Gronenthal; her great grandchild A'Karria Callahan; her siblings, Iona Dempsey (Emmet), Mark Herchenbach (Kay), Romana Hemmer (Wilfred), Louis Herchenbach (Janice) and Eugene Herchenbach; and her in-laws, Darlene Herchenbach, Floyd Hemmer (Mary Ann), Erna Ternus (Dick), Patricia Bierman (Dave), Bill Hemmer and Beth Patrick (Ray).

She is survived by: her children, Cindi Oberhauser (Terry) of Lindsay, Mike (Jules Gottlieb) of Ankeny, Dan (Cindy) of Albion, Dale (Mary) of Humphrey, Renee Gronenthal (Matt) of Norfolk and Brian (Dani) of Kearney; her siblings, Jerry Herchenbach of Columbus and Mary VanDyke (Ivan) of Norfolk; and her in-laws, Father Joe Hemmer of Manitowoc, Elaine Hamm (Don) of Centerville, Carol Freudenburg of Madison and Deloris Herchenbach of Columbus. She is also survived by 23 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Visitation was held on Sunday, April 27th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the St. Mary's Catholic Church (2300 Madison Ave, Norfolk, NE 68701). A vigil service was held on Sunday, April 27th 2025 at 7:00 PM at the same location. A Mass of Christian burial was held on Monday, April 28th 2025 at 10:30 AM at the same location.
