He was predeceased by: his parents, Curtiss N. Smith and Goldie G. Smith (Huckins); and his brother Bob. He is survived by: his daughter Cassy (Jason); his grandchildren, Madilyn, Jaxson and Grace of Baldwin City, Kansas; his son Jacob (Kelly); his grandchildren, Caden and Sutton of Fort Collins, Colorado; and his siblings, Jim (Coffey) of Bridgeport, Nebraska and Jan Bruhn of Hemingford, Nebraska. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins.
