He was predeceased by: his parents, James Eli Thayer and Maude Mae Swick; his wife Verla Clausen; his daughter Verna; and his brothers, Fred and LaVerne.
He is survived by: his children, Leslie, Verlene Zacher (Mark) of Rapid City, S. D., Les Thayer (Jannette) of Rapid City, S. D., Cassie Schweigerdt (Jerry) of Rapid City, S. D., LeAnn Hinton (Mike) of Indianapolis, Ind and Malena Richardson (Scott) of Chadron; his grandchildren, Tony Zacher (Amanda) of Rapid City, Jessica Zacher of Rapid City, Randee Thayer of Rapid City, Jordyn Beebe (Eric) of Rapid City, Andrew Tuggle of Fort Wayne, Ind, Tyler, Bryce Hinton of Indianapolis, Brayden of Chadron, Dayton of Chadron, Kinley Richardson of Chadron and Derek Larson of Texas; and his sisters, Ann Hale (Gailund Valentine), Lila Nelson (Leo) and Karen Holeman. He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren.
