He was predeceased by: his parents, Raymond K. Schmitz and Adelaide Schmitz (McGill); and his grandparents, August, Christina Schmitz, Martin and Margaret McGill.

He is survived by: his siblings, Timothy of Orchard, Ann O'Neill (Larry) of Columbus, Gerry (Jennifer) of Albion and Rita Pavlik (Terry) of Verdigre; his uncle Leonard Schmitz of Winsor, CO; and his aunt Sarah McGill (Dick) of Lake. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and close friends.
