He was predeceased by: his parent Moody Graham. He is survived by: his parent Sue Burgess Proffitt; his son John W. Proffitt, Jr.; and his siblings, Grace Callaham of Greenville, Hazel Breeding of Florida and Charles Proffitt of Greenville. He is also survived by 2 daughters from a previous marriage, Debbie Villanueva of Aiken and Joni Iverson of Summerville; 4 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Liberty First Baptist Church: PO Box 207 Liberty, SC 29657.
