He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Batenhorst and Mary Batenhorst (Hoffman); his father-in-law Frank (Alethia Maret); and his siblings, Dolores Keathing, Eugene, James and Kenny.

He is survived by: his wife Elaine Maret; his children, Susan Van Brocklin (Garret) of Cortland, NE, Shannon Eastwood (Bart) of Blacksburg, VA and Todd Batenhorst (Katherine) of St. Augustine, FL; his grandchildren, Benjamin, Zachary, Anna, Eli Van Brocklin, Cole and Allie Eastwood; his sister Maureen Flynn of Sioux Falls, SD; and his siblings-in-law, Kenny Maret (Sandy), Bob Maret, Margie Leonard, Nancy Packer and Ramona Raile.

Memorials are suggested to the Kearney Catholic Foundation, the Stuart Nebraska Community Foundation, or the University of Nebraska Kearney Foundation for Cross Country and Track.
