She was predeceased by: her mother Mary E. Whittaker Whittaker (Jackson); her daughter Ann Payne; her father Arthur Peterson; her brother Robert Peterson; her great-grandparent Nick Conover; her grandparents, Archie Jackson and Lena Jackson; her parents-in-law, Ruth (Sherer) and Alvie Payne; and her brother-in-law Charles Payne.

She is survived by: her husband John of Kearney; her children, Linda Payne Kitt (Ron) of Kearney, Nancy Payne (Ben Goodkind) of Arlington, VA and Steven Payne (Lauren) of Jacksonville, NC; her grandchildren, Colby Payne (Pam) of Virginia Beach, VA, Noah Goodkind of Olympia, WA, Sam Goodkind of San Francisco, CA, Joshua, Rebekah Payne of Jacksonville, Cara Kitt Mullins (Pat) of Omaha, NE, Cory and Erin Kitt of Kearney; her great grandchild Penelope Payne of Virginia Beach; her sister Cynthia Peterson of Lincoln, NE; her siblings-in-law, Cheryl Peterson of Lincoln, Ron, Nita Payne and Marian Payne (Ketty Rodriques Moro) of Kearney; and also Lena Conover Jackson of Farnam. She is also survived by several nephews and nieces, cousins and close friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the University of Nebraska Foundation, P.E.O. Chapter GG (Kearney, NE), Kearney First United Methodist Church , or to the family (in care of the funeral home) for later designation.
