Alton Schmitt Obituary
With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Alton Schmitt of Kearney, Nebraska, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on April 17, 2025 at the age of 93. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Fred Schmitt and Lydia Schmitt (Himmerich); his wife Sylvia Schmitt; and his siblings, Leontina Whitbeck, Art Schmitt, Alvin Schmitt and Marvin Schmitt.
He is survived by: his children, Carrie Gross of Omaha and Patrick Schmitt of Omaha; his stepchildren, Kim Smith (George) of Kearney and Kevin Hilty of Loup City; his grandchildren, Trey Gross (Meghan) of Logan, UT and Tylore Gross of Omaha; his stepgrandchildren, Nicholas Potter (Nikki Mooney), Kasey Potter (Tyler), Logan Potter, Shyanne Howell (Tully), Holly Smith (Tyler Black), Hope Smith (Jayden Vandiest) and Brady Hoss; his great grandchild Mayze Gross; and his stepgreat-grandchildren, Destiny, Ezekial, Aubree, Asia, Romeo, Jayda, Lucky, Kye, Wezlee, Fox, Koe and Mabel. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family.
Visitation was held on Thursday, April 24th 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the O'Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Homes and Cremations (4115 Avenue N Pl, Kearney, NE 68847). A funeral service was held on Friday, April 25th 2025 at 10:00 AM at the Central Nebraska Veteran's Home (4510 E 56th St, Kearney, NE 68847).
Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation.
