He was predeceased by: his parents, James Irby and Helen Irby (Friend); his son William L. Irby, Jr.; and his siblings, Lola Ilertson, James Irby, Edna Thompson and Joan Corkin.
He is survived by: his nephew Michael Irby; his wife Catherine Irby of Jackson; his children, Edward Irby (Belia) of Homer, Marina McPherran (Bill) of Homer and Marlena Atwood of Des Moines; his siblings, John Irby, Alma Boston, Robert Irby, Donald Irby, Dennis Irby, Linda Patton and Lawrence Irby; and his grandchildren, Lindsey Hermelbracht (Chad), Brianna Atwood, Adam McPherran (Tressa), Colette Irby-Atwood and Katelyn Irby.
