He was loved and cherished by many people including: his father Daniel Leo; his wife Jackie (Cahill); and his children, Ron Hartnett (Roxi), Mary Dostal, Joe Hartnett (Pam), Daniel Hartnett (Eileen), Dakota Dunes, Katy Hertzel (Dan), Lincoln, Beth Fuchser (Russ), Amy Brower (Dan), Jennifer Pattee (Michael), Hubbard and Jean Hartnett. He was also cherished by 31 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
Their generous contributions to the Bishop Heelan Catholic Schools PRIDE Campaigns are commemorated with a plaque designating the English Department as "Jim & Jackie Hartnett '50 Family".
