He was predeceased by: his parents, Buck Ellerbee and Zelma Ellerbee (Pillers); his wife Karen; and his siblings, Anne Kimmel and Mike Ellerbee.

He is survived by: his children, Stacy Schernikau (Jon) and Bill Ellerbee (Diane); and his grandchildren, Will Johnson (Taylor), Carly Aitken (Cameron), Katie Arens (Tony), Matt, Clare, Andrew, John Paul and Mary Ann Ellerbee. He is also survived by four great grandchildren.
