Kroll Funeral Home Hebron, NE 402-768-6165 Max Henry Gausman of Chester, NE the son of Julius and Rosa (Young) Gausman was born January 13, 1931 in Hubbell, NE. He departed this life Thursday, March 1, 2018 at Jefferson Community Health and Life in Fairbury, NE at the age of 87 years. Max grew up in the Hubbell area attending school and graduated from Chester High School with the class of 1949.

He married Roberta Hartley February 2, 1952 at the United Methodist Church in Belleville, KS. This union was blessed with the birth of four children. Max entered the United States Army March 28, 1952 serving in Korea. He was honorably discharged March 5, 1954. He started his working career driving truck for Hill Oil Company of Chester, NE, then the grain elevator in Belleville.

His main career was working for the Federal Government (APHIS) inspecting livestock operations. He worked in Nebraska and several other states retiring after 44 years. Max liked playing golf, watching the Huskers, cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals, visiting with friends at the coffee shop, and coaching Little League Baseball.

Most of all Max loved spending time with his family, especially the grandchildren. It seemed like there was never a dull moment. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Robert and wife Phyllis, sisters; Leona Miller, twin sister Maxine Moxhan, and JoAnn Elwell and husband Donnie. He is survived by his wife Roberta of Chester for 66 years, sons; Randy and wife Shellie of Goodland, KS, Mick and wife Becky of Chester, NE, and Russ and wife Brenda of Lincoln, daughter Becky Jo Griffin and husband Dave of Fairbury, brother-in-law Jerry Miller of Lincoln, grandchildren; Scott Gausman and wife Niki of Kearney, Crystal Cutbirth of Westminster, CO, Ryan Gausman of Topeka, KS, Chelsie Howard and husband Alex of Goodland, KS, Amber Versch and husband Jesse of Hornick, IA, A.J. Gausman and wife Abby of Deshler, Breanna Gausman and Colton Shaw of Lincoln, Renee Gausman of Lincoln, Trenton Griffin and wife KiLee of Crete, Pierce Griffin of Omaha, and Dalton Griffin of Kearney, 16 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be Monday, March 5, 2018 at The United Methodist Church in Chester, NE at 10:30 AM. Visitation will be Sunday, March 4 at Kroll Funeral Home in Hebron. Officiant Pastor Young Je Kim, organist ………….., casket bearers are the grandsons and honorary casket bearers are the granddaughters. Burial will be in Chester Cemetery with military honors by Thayer County Legion Members, and American Legion Riders.
