With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Lorraine M Hamel of Dodge, Nebraska, who passed away on March 15, 2021 at the age of 89. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

She was predeceased by: her parents, Frank Knopik and Caroline Knopik (Lesiak); her husband Darwin "Jake" Hamel; her siblings, Katherine Casey, Ethel Kava, Elizabeth Stopak, Edward, Virgil, Frank, Louis, Lawrence and Jerome Knopik; and her son-in-law Curtis Stecher.

She is survived by: her children, Rebecca Stecher of Dodge, Denise "Dee" Eikmeier (Gary) of Dodge, Kimberly Lenhart (Mark) of Arvada, CO, Tim (Somboon) of Sioux Falls, SD, Chris (Betsy) of Omaha and Bruce (Diane) of Gretna; and her siblings, Rose Zaruba of Fullerton, Mary Gdowski (Ben) of York and Richard Knopik of Columbus. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation.

“My condolences to the family. I worked with Lorraine "Bugs" many years ago at Cottonwood House. She was the hardest worker and she loved the residents we took care of. After Jake passed away, we had "dates" after Saturday Night Mass. Which usually included a meal somewhere and a cruise around town in her shiny, spotless clean red car. She was a woman of great faith, work ethic and adored her family. Bugs was a true friend and I'm sure will be greatly missed. Rest in Peace Polka Girl!”
