He was predeceased by: his parents, George A. Barlean and Anna Barlean (Muller); his brother George Barlean; his half-sisters, Phyllis Bredehoeft and Marjorie Barlean; and his brothers-in-law, Norman Kobza and Michael Schroeder.
He is survived by: his wife Barbara Schroeder; his children, Steve Barlean (Gina) of David City and Patricia Gunther (Dan) of Lincoln; his grandchildren, Timothy Gunther, Emily Barlean, Jesse Barlean and Andrew Gunther; and his sisters-in-law, Dorothy Barlean of David City, Mary Kobza of Mesa, Dianne Klingemann (Don) of Nellysford and Diane Schroeder of Omaha.
