He is survived by: his wife Dorothy Vanis (Policky) of David City; his children, Deb Besse (Rich) of Columbia, Fred Vanis, Jr. (Joleen Noxon) of Ulysses, Pat Vanis of Lincoln, Barb Vanis of Colorado Springs, Tony Vanis (Jackie) of Seward, Sharon Vanis of Gilbert, Tami Lavicky (Bruce) of Papillion and Dori Austin (Dan) of Davenport, Iowa; his grandchildren, Brock Besse, Brittany Besse Wahr (Rob), Martina Vanis, Rachelle Vanis Hansen (TJ), RaNae Vanis Muenchrath (Jason), Kaleen Vanis, Nathan Vanis (Krista), Garrett Vanis (Ashley), Spencer Lavicky, Easton Lavicky, Dane Lavicky, Trent Lavicky, Tashington Austin, Brogan Austin, Chandler Austin and Amara Austin; his great grandchildren, Hunter Muenchrath, Jackson Hansen, Layken Hansen, Kennedy Wahr, Liam Vanis, Aiden Vanis and Joseph James Vanis-Lopez; and his brother-in-law Les Policky.
