He was predeceased by: his father LeRoy Novak; his parents-in-law, Swede and Marie Erickson; and his brother-in-law Bill Drevs. He is survived by: his mother Joyce Novak (Engel) of Pender, NE; his children, Marissa Gutzmann (Novak) of Emerson, NE and Colton Novak of Dakota City, NE; his son-in-law Austin Gutzmann; his grandchildren-in-law, Summer Gutzmann and Lee; his wife Carrie Novak of Dakota City, NE; his grandchild Summer Gutzmann; his siblings, Nancy Nyquist (Larry) of Omaha, NE, Craig Novak (Jean) of Loveland, CO, Scott Novak (Reva) of Rosalie, NE and Rhonda Jacob of Fort Meyers, FL; his siblings-in-law, Mick Erickson (Wanda) of Naples, FL, Diane Drevs of Moville, IA and Chis Gill (Dave) of Sioux City, IA; his uncle Marvin Barge; and his nieces and nephews, Brent Ruppert, Keven Ruppert (Tara), Derek Ruppert, Clinton Novak (Abby), Casey Novak (Megan), Kyle Novak (Caitlyn), Michael Erickson (Carla), Tyler Gill, Cody Gill (Jessica), Jaimee Finney (Mike), Anna Uhl (Mike), Lisa Gilbert (Ryan), Mindy Warns (Dustin), Carrie Novak and Paden Faulkner (Blaze).
He was an active member of First Lutheran Church in South Sioux City, acting as the Council President and Vice President and the First Lutheran Foundation President.
